What is Kingdom Sisterhood?

by Pastor Leisa Nelson

As I sit here asking HIM to pour these words onto the page, I realize, even as a mother and a grandmother, that I am still seeking answers to this question.  I must first admit to you all, that in many areas I have failed miserably. I have allowed my own insecurity, my failures and shortcomings, my perceptions, my fears—to build walls around my heart. Notice I have taken complete responsibility for the framework that must be torn down in order for me to repent, forgive, open my heart, have courage, be saturated in HIS love and therefore, have my worth and spiritual lenses rooted in HIM and HIM alone. That is the first step! Coming to an understanding that HE wants to begin in me; to show me a love that seeks not its own, doesn’t count faults and wounds, isn’t proud or boastful, but puts others above everything, is my greatest desire. As we all step into this journey together, let’s swing wide the doors of our lives—because HIS Kingdom is coming, and I want to be right in the middle of what HE is doing. It will come because we have so torn down the walls that separate us, we are joined together in unity…as one! They will know we are HIS, because of the LOVE we have for each other.  Four writers in the Old and New Testaments put it this way:

I want to love one another with sisterly affection, out do one another in showing honor, be diligent and careful and not slothful in zeal and pursuit, be fervent in spirit, serve the Lord always. Romans 12:10

Let each of you look not only to her own interests, but also to the interests of others. Bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ. Philippians 2:4

Kingdom Sisterhood is women of all ages, championing the purposes of God in each other’s lives. It is us celebrating our uniqueness, our differences, as well as celebrating the advancement of our sisters above our own.

It is a whole army of BRAVE Women standing in defiance of the onslaught of the enemy against our lives, our families, our friends, our relationships, and the lives of the women of our cities!

KINGDOM SISTERHOOD is intentional:

HE is moved by our unity in walking together. We have to make a choice not to allow misunderstanding and confusion to separate us. We must move towards our sisters and not away from them; making every effort to communicate, talk, clear the air, and know that we are choosing the TRUTH, over the twisted lies of the enemy. We must be intentional in prayer and action in recognizing the enemy is against our unity and we are not fighting against each other but against his schemes and lies.

Paul writes, “For though we walk in the flesh as mortals, we are not carrying on our spiritual warfare according to the flesh and using the weapons of man. The weapons of our warfare in this life are not physical weapons of flesh and blood. Our weapons are divinely powerful for the destruction of fortresses. We are destroying sophisticated arguments and every exalted and proud thing that sets itself up against the true knowledge of God, and we are taking every thought and purpose captive to the obedience of Christ, being ready to punish every act of disobedience, when your own obedience is complete. You are looking only at the outward appearance of things. If anyone is confident that he is Christ’s, he should reflect and consider this, that just as he is Christ’s, so too are we.” 2 Cor 10:3-7

Let’s break this scripture down:

We are fleshly beings and must come under submission to the spirit of God.

We are not fighting this warfare with physical weapons.

Our fight is against sophisticated arguments, full of pride.

We have the authority to destroy, through prayer and fasting, EVERYTHING that exalts itself against who Christ Jesus is.

We MUST take every thought captive.

We must punish disobedience by our acts of obedience.

We are only seeing the outward appearance of what is in front of us.

This journey is a journey of prayer and contending for our sister and ourselves. Kingdom Sisterhood, will believe what HIS word says, and stand for truth. Sometimes, it may seem like a battle….because it is! The enemy only attacks what is a threat to him. We have every right to run from this battle. It is easier to not get involved in other people’s lives, and to walk away from uncomfortable situations, and really uncomfortable truthful conversations.  The more difficult choice is to admit our own struggle and insecurity, and lay down our pride and run toward RESTORATION.  Run from the hard thing, and you’ll avoid the confrontation—but you will forfeit displaying the heart of God and the chance to stand in the moment, silence fear, lay aside offense, charge head-on and face the enemy and fight for your sister; fight for unity and relationship.

KINGDOM SISTERHOOD is Beautiful Bravery:
You are BRAVE!!  You may not recognize IT, but HE does!

You are needed—You are valuable—You have something to give!

BRAVE is a Big word. But its definition is simply:

To display courage… (even when we are afraid)

At every age we need HIM and we need each other! From generation to generation, as an army of Kingdom Sisterhood, we need to lead the daughters towards the ONE who will be their all-sufficient Savior. Let us teach each other the many faces of BRAVE so we have an understanding that we are all in different places of our journey.  To some it is in victory and triumph, to others it is in sorrow and loss, to others pressing in and through, worship, standing…..and to others, it is simply picking up their sword again., and getting back in the battle.

Our bravery is not for survival, but it is a display of courage to ignite a fire, and reverberate a sound from one generation to the next, from one sister to the other. Our sound, together, as Kingdom Sisterhood—bringing HIS KINGDOM to EARTH, is our purpose and HIS passion.

Let us Stand together, because HE will hold us up!
Let us Cry out together, because HE will hear us!
Let us FIGHT together, Because HE is fighting for us!

Wherever you are in your journey, there is a group of women waiting to walk with you!

There are days HE calls my name, but then there are other days I call HIS, and still other days I need a SISTER to call out with me— this is Kingdom Sisterhood.

Your love for one another will be so deep, and so strong, and so pure, it will prove to the world that you are my disciples (Kingdom Sisterhood.)”  John 13:35

  1. Through our Father’s Love–that by the riches of His Grace He has “shed abroad in our hearts” (Rom 5:5)–we can love and forgive ourselves, and then find the courage to fearlessly share His love with others.

  2. This is so powerful, Pastor Leisa! Excellent job. God has been stirring in me the desire to belong to a community of believers., not just fellow church attenders, but others I can serve and bless and feel I belong. I wasn’t sure quite how to express it, but it seems God is echoing this message to many of His children. Thank you for being honest and vulnerable. I love and admire you so much. I look forward to driving up for the conference!
